The History & Symbolism of Freemasonry with Henrik Huthoff

Few societies are shrouded in as much mystery as the Freemasons. Renowned for their secrecy and mystical symbolism as well as prominently featuring in every conspiracy theory known to man, who are these people donning aprons and exchanging secret handshakes? Contrary to popular belief, Freemasonry is not a secret society restricted to influential men and members can speak freely about its activities. Hendrik Huthoff will discuss the principles of the order, its history, rituals, symbolism and its place in today’s society.

Dr. Hendrik Huthoff always wanted to become an Alchemist, but he had to make do with a career in virology after finding that a degree in chemistry had disappointingly little to offer in terms of the esoteric. As a student he became interested in Freemasonry but was profoundly disillusioned after discovering that this intriguing society had admitted among its members somebody as mundane as his dad (a deaf and self-educated engineer for the European Space Agency). Having freed himself from the shackles of parental example by moving to London, and despite attempts by Dan Brown to make Freemasonry decidedly uncool, the temptation of joining the Freemasons in their place of origin proved too great to withstand. Nowadays, Hendrik and his dad are also brothers.
