Explore London’s witch-ridden, pagan past with Maria Beadell, founder of Herstorical Tours, and Devil’s Botany Absinthe.

Did you know that London has a long, dark history of witchcraft and persecution? Maria runs a highly popular immersive walking tour in London called Hex and the City which explores the history of London witches and their persecution from the early modern period up til the mid 20th century.

In this talk created especially for the Last Tuesday Society, Maria will give you a preview of the tour by introducing some of the forgotten women that were branded as witches, and an overview of the history of the ‘witch craze’, both in London and beyond. How and why did it start, who were targeted? and what were the consequences? Expert live performances to bring this talk to life and provide a unique look at the ‘herstory’ of London witches.

Tickets include a glass of Devil’s Botany Chocolate Absinthe Liqueur.

Maria Beadell is a tour guide, writer, performer, storyteller and history enthusiast born and raised in London. With a special focus on the dark and curious underbelly of London’s past – they explore the hidden nooks and crannies of the city whilst introducing you to the women that created ‘herstory’ here – from witches to harlots.

Devil’s Botany is London’s first absinthe distillery, founded by Directors of The Last Tuesday Society’s Absinthe Parlour & Cocktail Bar.
