From Opium to Absinthe: Drugs & the Decadent Movement with Jon Crabb

Step into the world of the Decadent Movement as we unravel the relationship between art, literature, and mind-altering substances. This talk journeys through the smoke-filled salons and verse-filled bars of fin-de-siècle London and Paris, where writers and artists indulged in poetry and poisons. Explore how substances like opium, hashish, and absinthe influenced a generation. Hear stories about Baudelaire, Wilde, Rimbaud, and many others who sought to find inspiration in intoxication.

Jon Crabb is the editor of Decadence: A Literary Anthology, published by the British Library. He has also published on a wide variety of subjects including William Burroughs, witchcraft, and early modern woodcuts.
